All six mushrooms are fruiting-body extracts (not mycelium-on-grain). Per Heart Magic's ingredient label, each serving contains a 4,528mg total mushroom blend: Cordyceps 1,584mg, Lion's Mane 1,312mg, Reishi 905mg, Chaga 497mg, Golden Oyster (ErgoGold®) 136mg, and Maitake (Myco D2™) 94mg.

Cacao has been prepared as a ritual drink for thousands of years. Functional mushrooms (Cordyceps, Lion's Mane, Reishi, Chaga, Golden Oyster, and Maitake) carry their own long histories of traditional use. We blend the two because they complement each other: cacao brings the rich flavor and gentle theobromine lift, while each mushroom was chosen for its own traditional character, from vitality to calm.

Pour over plant milk for a creamier cup, or sweeten with honey or your favorite sweetener. Warm spices like cinnamon, cardamom, or a pinch of sea salt are classic additions. Some customers add collagen or a shot of espresso. And feel free to adjust the water-to-cacao ratio until it's exactly your cup.

Coffee's caffeine tends to act fast and taper fast. Theobromine, cacao's primary active compound, is absorbed more slowly, so many people describe its lift as gentler and more gradual. Cacao also brings micronutrients (magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and flavanols) and more than 3,000 years of ceremonial tradition. Everyone responds differently.

They start as the same bean, but they're very different products. Ceremonial cacao is the whole bean: hand-harvested, sun-dried, and stone-ground into a paste with its natural cacao butter intact, where much of the flavor lives. Cocoa powder is made by pressing most of that cacao butter out, leaving a dry, defatted powder built for baking.

Research published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that alkalizing (“Dutch processing”) cocoa can reduce its natural flavanol antioxidants by roughly 60–90%, depending on how heavily it’s processed. Heart Magic cacao is never Dutch-processed. Both are legitimate products, simply made for different jobs.

We work with two Peruvian cacaos. Our Pure Cacao Discs are single-origin, wild-grown, heirloom white-bean cacao from small family farms in the coastal tropical desert of Northern Peru, one of the rarest cacao-growing microclimates on earth. The cacao paste in our hearts comes from small, regenerative family farms elsewhere in Peru, grown using organic practices though not yet formally certified. Every purchase helps support these farming communities.

The beans are hand-harvested, sun-dried, and stone-ground into a whole cacao paste with the natural cacao butter left intact. Farms use regenerative growing practices, and farmers are paid above commodity rates. Processing stays at low temperatures to preserve the cacao's natural flavor, and it is never Dutch-processed.

“How do we make these experiences more accessible without diluting their power?”

Heart Magic began in Guatemala, where we shared ceremonial cacao before gatherings, dances and retreats. Again and again, we watched people soften, open up and connect, sometimes for the first time in years. Then came the question we heard after almost every gathering: where can I buy this?

The honest answer was: not easily. Traditional ceremonial cacao takes knowledge, tools and time to prepare well.
